Hope everyone had a good weekend, and welcome back to TheSolidSurfer.com. The past several days have produced a lion's share of noteworthy events, and I'd like to reflect on a few of them.
Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) leads effort to reject Flight 93 memorial. The problem with the proposed memorial is that it is to be titled the "Crescent Embrace" and to feature a red crescent almost exactly in the shape of the Islamic red crescent symbol. Whether intentionally designed this way or not, the fact remains that it appears to symbolize the religion for which the Flight 93 hijackers murdered the passengers, and this is both highly inappropriate and extremely insensitive to the victims and their families. Click here to lodge a complaint on the government's official Flight 93 page.
China to attack Taiwan within two years? This development needs to be carefully watched.
This is a very interesting article regarding mosquito-borne diseases and the use of DDT. I'm no scientist, but if this information is correct (and I certainly trust the source), then the world needs to bring DDT back ASAP. Yes, it has a terrible rap for harming the environment, but this should not matter a whit if it will save millions of people from malaria, West Nile virus, and the like. (The piece does mention the environmental concerns as well, and recommends targeted but effective use of the chemical -- as opposed to the widespread past use that facilitated its current ban -- to minimize the risks.)
Tony Blair makes a good decision.
Victor Davis Hanson has an informative Q&A session on why we must stay in Iraq to complete the job. And tomorrow (September 14th), he is set to debate liberal writer Arianna Huffington. This should be a good one - check out the webcast if you can (info is on the linked page).
