What is going on with Israel's Prime Minister Olmert? Just days after finally showing some resolve in pledging to defeat Hezbollah, he maintains that he still plans to uproot Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria. The first time I read those words, I blinked and thought - did I actually see that correctly? How in the world can he still be considering it? After all Israel has endured the past week, what can he possibly be thinking? Even France now agrees that withdrawal has led not to peace, but to Arab aggression. At least Olmert's wish will likely never come true; after all Hezbollah's fighting, I can't imagine the Israeli people consenting to more withdrawals.
Meanwhile, another entirely unlikely headline: Dennis Prager agreeing with Leftists. Impossible, you say? Not quite. Of course, these are Israeli leftists with whom Prager concurs, and it is they, and not the conservative columnist, who have changed their position. But still, stunning nonetheless, and something I'm very glad to hear.
Where will the next EU be located? Not in North America, ensures Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who spearheaded the blockage of a Senate bill intending to create a North American union between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The original European model clearly doesn't work; no need to create another.
And last but not least, could Oliver Stone make a patriotic film? Time to believe it. The director's upcoming feature, World Trade Center, heavily supports America while following the lives of two police officers involved in the 9-11 rescue efforts. Amazing. For the first time in a while, a true display of excellent sense and taste from Tinseltown.
Blog of the Day: Little Green Footballs. Sure, they've been in this spot before, but their continuing coverage of the Middle East conflict has been, in my opinion, second to none among blogosphere heavyweights.
Quick update from Canada:
A while back, after Harper was elected PM of Canada, I concluded that there wouldn't be any significant change in Canada's foreign policy. I couldn't have been any more wrong. Harper has taken a similar stance supporting Israel's war against Hezbollah. Harper has also stimulated massive economic growth and has even managed to lower federal taxes.
Has anyone else read this and found it extremly distrubing?

Olmert must be taken down before he gets another million or so Jews killed.

Ian, yea that is distrubing, Robertson obviously doesn't care about the integrity of his tv pieces. Glad to hear Stone's movie is what it is, a movie, not political propaganda.

Ian - I agree, that's great news from Canada. I figured Harper would attempt to do such things, but that opposition party-based government gridlock would largely prevent him from implementing them. But I'm very pleasantly surprised that I was wrong.
As for Nic Robertson, it's ridiculous how biased mainstream reporting is. Knowing CNN's typical slant and Hezbollah's anti-freedom terrorist tactics, the article about Robertson doesn't surprise one bit. But it's nevertheless still a terrible thing for Israel and the free world.
I pretty much never watch CNN; I get most TV news from Fox and more news overall from the Internet. How about yourself?

MZ, I'm totally with you against Olmert on this point; I'm still shocked that he's even considering it. Good news is, though, that most Israelis do indeed oppose the withdrawal plan, and it seems like pretty much a given that it won't happen: http://www.jta.org/page_view_story.asp?intarticleid=16858&intcategoryid=1
Nice Israel coverage on your site too...the Torah portion you posted is really eye-opening as well.

Oh and also, your post on Congressional voting for and against Israel reminded me of an article I saw today on Congressman Abercrombie of Hawaii who votes against Israel way too much of the time: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=23516 Seems like Dennis Kucinish is also a regular anti-Israel vote as well; somehow I'm not surprised that both are very left wing politicians.
