Outside of my home state, TheSolidSurfer.com has largely stayed away from regional politics. But I'm breaking the mold with a request to all Connecticut Democrats (if any indeed read this blog): Do your party and country a great favor and vote for Joe Lieberman. Much is at stake, and whether you like it or not, Ned Lamont-style appeasement never works. It will greatly endanger even yourselves.
Also, on an entirely different topic, I'd like to introduce a new upcoming site feature. Through the course of writing this blog, I have accumulated a large unpublished backlog of links, articles, mini-essays, letters, reader suggestions, and more. They were all intended for the site at one time or another, but slipped through the cracks for various reasons. Much of this content, however, is still very timely and worthy of publication, and so I plan to include it in a series of "outtake" posts in the near future. Look for it soon, and meanwhile here's a small sample:
From March 2006 - Blue Star PR eloquently explains Israel's contribution to nature and technology, and where the Green Party's leftist opposition to it goes outrageously wrong (PDF link).
About a month ago I happened to catch a debate on tv between Lieberman and Ned Lamont. Lamont was outclassed and also pulled a John Kerry, flip-floping on Iraq several times. I hope, for the sake of Connecticut, that Lieberman wins this primary.

I think Lieberman will win in the general election. Connecticut doesn't have a strong Republican base, so many registered Republicans will probably vote for Joe. Add this to the 48% of Democrats who supported him (maybe subtract some of this, but the Republican vote will more than make up for it), and I think he will pull it off.
